The meter plots left and right audio as an XY scope display. The audio scope also incorporates a stereo phase meter that can be associated to different SDI audio pairs. Similarly, for the application of a tint, vectorscope displays the level of tint and its colour.ġ6 channels of audio metering, corresponding to every channel in the SDI video connection, allow the user to monitor audio levels. For precise white balance during colour correction, vectorscope shows when a colour has been removed or negated. What’s more, the SmartScope Duo 4K utilises Blackmagic Design’s vectorscope to accurately measure in video colours.
It’s especially useful for setting output levels on broadcast decks and general level monitoring during edit thanks to a luminance waveform of the black and white levels of a video signal. The Blackmagic Design SmartScope Duo 4K features Waveform display, which is ideal for adjusting video levels or matching black background levels when keying.
A sensor also enables the SmartScope Duo 4K to automatically flip an image if the unit is installed upside down. In addition, the unit is exceptionally compact for its power, and only occupies three rack height units whilst remaining less than two inches deep including connectors – well suited to production trucks and other on-location applications. The Blackmagic Design SmartScope Duo 4K also features a Tally display bordering each monitor that is compatible with industry standard Tally systems. The monitor’s display mode, of video or scope view, can be adjusted in this manner, as well as its brightness and colour. Once the USB connection has set up the Duo, an Ethernet connector allows the user to control the monitor from anywhere on a network, thanks to the supplied software. As well as the input video, it’s also possible to display one of the six scope displays as the input passes through the SmartScope Duo 4K on to other devices. The inputs are capable of automatically detecting a signal you won’t have to worry about marrying up input formats, in fact the monitor will display any format fed into it (provided it is supported of course). Each of its two 8” monitors feature a loop-through SDI input and output. The Blackmagic Design SmartScope Duo 4K is a monitoring solution designed with studio and location productions in mind, showing video with resolutions of up to 3840x2160 at 30p.
